Among the many citizens of our great country, two of the most ignored groups are also some of the most in need of compassion and respect: Senior and Disabled citizens. While some of these people receive the care and respect they deserve from friends and family, many are forgotten as they live out their lives in care homes or facilities. Abandoned is a short film I directed last winter. I plan to make a feature documentary about the person, whose goals are to help senior citizens in nursing homes and establish National Compassion Holiday, to encourage volunteer service to aid Senior centers and Disabled-care facilities, promote respect, education, and awareness for senior and disabled citizens, unite all people across race, religion, and politics in a new spirit of compassion and public service, help the world re-evaluate what it means to be older or disabled in our society. This film also is a kind of investigation: why some senior citizens do not want to spend the rest of their lives in nursing homes, so I plan to visit as much as possible senior centers around the country and approach those who are still on the streets. My hope is to raise at least $20000 in eight weeks for travel expenses, equipment rental, editing, packaging, film festival submissions and to get this feature out to audiences across the country by the end of this year.
