"THE ADVENTURES OF PALETA MAN" is a short film based on a feature screenplay trilogy currently in development. It’s an action adventure film filled with Aztec Warrior superpowers, Mexican luchador paraphernalia, Aztec mythology, and some visual effects.

SYNOPSIS: Mild-mannered Esteban Ruiz came to this country in search of a better life and is content with his job as a Paleta Man, selling “Paletas” (Mexican popsicles) to the neighborhood children in his hometown. But one day his life changes when he mysteriously becomes a Superhero. He saves the city, he protects women and children and he fights crime with his new superhuman Aztec-Warrior Luchador powers. Together with his love interest, Margarita Morales, they share their love for children and his quest of good versus evil.

BACKSTORY: In 2007, we were looking for an idea for a new children’s film and I was driving through downtown San Antonio, Texas when I almost ran over a Paleta Man who was riding his bicycle cart on his route selling paletas. Later that same summer day I saw him again, but this time he was surrounded by kids wanting to buy paletas from him. I knew as soon as I saw that scenario that he would be the next Latino Superhero because kids of all ages can relate to the Paleta man and look forward to seeing him every day during the summer because he brings them joy in the form of a delicious sweet Paleta.

So we had this great concept for a film and we began writing the feature screenplay, THE ADVENTURES OF PALETA MAN. Because of our interest in Aztec mythology & the culture, we wanted the screenplay to be authentic, so we researched as much as we could on Aztec mythology websites to really embrace the culture in our screenplays. Our passion for this film started taking a life of its own and the concept grew into a trilogy.

Since then, we’ve written three Bilingual Children’s books. The first book entitled “The Adventures of Paleta Man” was released on November 4, 2010 and  is currently available through http://www.amazon.com & http://search.barnesandnoble.com The second book entitled “The Adventures of Paleta Man – Secret of the Gold Medallion” will be available in April of 2011, and the third book entitled “The Adventures of Paleta Man – Temple of the Sun”  will be available in October of 2011. Like many other filmmakers, we wrote this short film with the wish to showcase it to production companies and studios and, ultimately, make the full feature movies.

But in order to make this film a reality, we need your help! Through Kickstarter, our goal is to raise $20,000. This is the minimum amount we need to make this vision become a reality. Of course, if we surpass our project goal, this will help push the project to its full potential.

HOW KICKSTARTER WORKS: By supporting a project and donating, you are supporting independent filmmakers and artists. No amount is too small.

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE DON'T REACH OUR PROJECTED GOAL AMOUNT? 
 Unfortunately nothing. If our projected goal isn’t met before the deadline, the backers will not be charged, and our film won’t be funded. Of course, we are optimistic artists.

CAN WE EXCEED OUR GOAL? 
 We can exceed the goal and Kickstarter will allow as much money as is given before the deadline. We need to raise $20,000 by May 21st. Any funds raised will go directly to covering operating expenses, such as film and lighting equipment, props, production insurance, locations, permits, visual effects, set building, etc.

Every dollar above and beyond $20,000 will increase our ability to achieve our creative vision and include state of the art technology, including stunts and visual effects.

So, we need a few PALETA MAN FANS out there… as well as some Film Angels to help us on this exciting mission.

All incentives, big and small, will happen if our goal is met. Depending on the award, some will go out once the funding is complete. Others may have to wait accordingly to the release time-table of those awards in particular. However, if we meet our goal, we will contact you and let you know when you will receive your award.
