About this project
I have been performing the art of magic for over 15 years. In the past 5 years I have taken this hobby and turned it into a career. I have traveled performing on small cruise ships, corporate events and private parties. My act consist of mind reading, sleight of hand and stand up comedy. I have performed in venues made for 3,500 plus spectators, the problem being the size of my act.
Three years ago I performed my very first theater show titled “Jason Alan the Evolution of a Comedy Magician”. The small theater was made to hold no more than 300 people. In two nights we sold over 600 seats with people standing in the rear of the theater. The show was amazing but in the end we left the theater barely breaking even. From marketing, new tricks, to paying for stage help, financially it was pointless.
I have decided to perform a theater show again in my home town of Salem Ohio . The difference being the size of the venue and hopefully the financial outcome. This show will take place in a 700+ theater and hopefully mark the beginning of a national tour. The performance will be a variety show mostly involving comedy and magic. Alongside my act will be other magicians and well known comedians. The difference with this show being the overall size and the possibility of turning this into a national tour.
By funding this project, here is what your money will go towards:
To begin with I would like to have the ability to show off my close up sleight of hand skills. I am well known for my sleight of hand ability. In the past I have been awarded for my close up sleight of hand abilities. To make this a possibility I would like to purchase a projector and screen letting all 700+ audience members enjoy the beauty of close up magic.
The next step involves the construction of a few large illusions. My previous show consisted of small illusions that my budget would allow. I would like to build two huge illusions which I have designed and are ready to be built. This will be a big selling point in my show, changing it from a small briefcase show to a Vegas style performance.
As of June 1, 2012 I married my best friend Stacy. You can actually see my engagement on youtube under Jason Alan Magician proposal. Stacy has become a huge influence on my performances and has an interest in performing along side me. We have developed a two person act involving costume quick changes, magic, dance and illusions. A portion of the proceeds will go towards costume construction, rehearsal time and space to train Stacy in becoming a magician and magician’s assistant.
The biggest loss I encountered in my pervious show was marketing. To make sure we had a packed house I hired a design team to develop posters, hand bills, and tickets. The same strategy will take place for this new show on a larger scale.
The addition of talent besides my own comedy magic well help take this show from a one time deal into a possible tour. In the past few years, performing around the United States, I have met many comedians and performers who would love to join me again on stage. I will hire other entertainers, paying their set salary and travel expenses. This would help split the show into a full review show rather than a typical magic show.
Most of all the venues used for these performances will be determined on how much money I am able to budget. With the possibility of performing this across the nation I am interested in booking large theaters. The previous show’s budget allowed for a small 300 seat theater. With your help it will be possible to rent the largest theaters available.
Once the initial show takes place the proceeds will be used to further a national tour. These funds will help book future venues, hire additional talent and much more.
If we are able to raise the money required to develop this type of show the outcome will be phenomenal. Over the years I have taken pride in performing a unique and entertaining magic show. Although family friendly, this show will be geared toward adult audiences. Unlike the stereotypical magic show our show will be high class entertainment that will leave guest wanting more. We have began developing this show with the funds that we have; additional funds will not only help this project but turn it into something much more than it originally was intended to be. We hope you are as excited about this project as we are
