How the money is being spent?-
If the funds reach its goal, we will order resins for tooling and lamination, 2x2 twill, plain weave carbon fiber, LCD picture frames and the 2x2 texalium.
Myself, my brother, and friends/co-workers... and fellow students at the composite training center I attend if the need arises
The plan of attack--
Keeping tabs on the pledge amount as well answering any questions you may have.
If the pledge amount funds at an early stage, we will jump into action and start up the tooling line. We have one set of tools available at this time, depending on the amount of funds pledged this will dictate the amount of tools needed.We can build a fully functioning tool in 1-2 days. These tools will be ready for a VARTM (Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding) processed laminate.
If the pledge amount is met we will begin production. All of our surfboards will be constructed by a VARTM process, this insures a high quality laminated part. By choosing the VARTM process, we will be able to lay up all the tools and infuse all the tools at once expediting the laminating process. The Surfboards will be made locally by my team. We do have extensive background in rapid prototype tooling, fabrication, and lay up from space, aero-space, and aviation companies. With that being said we do not have any learning curve associated with the build sequences I also have a contact with a wholesaler for purchasing the LCD screens. I do have a few LCD screens in stock.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Yes, there are risks and challenges associated with the project at hand. With this project we have an advantage because we make the design, construct all the patterns, tools, and parts in house. As of now, we have one tool that is designed to make both, non-LCD and LCD models. The biggest risk associated with the project is the availability of LCD/LED picture frame units. I have mitigated this risk by building a good relationship with a local whole seller of the picture frames, and if needed the tool can be adjusted to accommodate other models. I have built a few of these before so it isn't going to be a struggle to cover the rewards offered.
Overcoming the prospected issues- If funds are achieved we will build 3 molds of each model for the initial run. Also each of these VARTM tools will be converted into a light RTM tool which will enable us to produce parts at a higher rate with less waste. This means a counter mold would be produced for each main tool. I have a great relationship with my professor, the chairman of the Composite Training Center (CTC) at a local college. I have donated my time at CTC to educate others in Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VARTM), so he will be more than happy to help in any way. This gives us a huge advantage for any extra resources needed. Our class has equipment from 3D printers to injection molding, vacuum forming machines, laser engraving, spray booths, and shaping rooms. I also have the man power on stand by...We can make this project happen! Especially with your help Kickstarting the project!
The biggest roadblock is the funds for the materials needed to complete the project. If the projected amount can be met, the materials can be ordered to build patterns, tools, and parts so everyone can enjoy this unique product. The LCD units will be ordered as well. I do have a few units in stock at this time.
