Citizen Normal is a webseries that follows the day-to-day life of a killer who begrudgingly shares the world with everyone else.
I first knew Chris Peckford as a coworker in retail, and we discovered that we had a lot of common interests. We got around to bouncing ideas off one another and decided we should try to write something together. I'd had an image in my head, and after some brainstorming, Chris and I were able to take that image and formulate an entire feature-length script around it within a couple of weeks. Instead of stopping, I asked Chris if there was anything he had in mind for us to try next... and he introduced me to the notion of Citizen Normal; this sick, angry, sociopathic, fictional character he'd been keeping a secret to everyone else for a decade. I've made shorts and my own feature film and had been looking for something like this, something in my wheelhouse... and we got to work making Citizen Normal as a webseries.
With season one under our collective belts, we've expanded the universe for season two, and we've come to Kickstarter in the hopes to get an actual budget for Citizen Normal. We knew from the start that season two had to be more broad, encompassing a wider range of characters to coexist in Citizen Normal's world. The limitations we had with season one forced us to be creative with staging, location and scarcity, and we're quite proud of the work. Season two, with your help, will have a level of polish we simply had no access to before.
Please have a look at some of our work, and then check out the reward levels we've come up with for this campaign:
Level 7 Extra Information: Instead of getting a Special Thanks, you will become an Executive Producer of the Kickstarted season, including credit on IMDB.com as well as in the credits of each show of the season you helped make happen.
Level 8 Extra Information: Skype chat will be either video or audio, depending on the contributor's capabilities. The calls will be a half hour long, and will entail a Q and A chat with Citizen, as well as some other surprises. Skype arrangements will be made upon success of the campaign.
Level 9 Extra Information: Travel and board not included, so Toronto residents are highly recommended. Restaurant will be chosen by The Citizen. Arrangements will be made upon the success of the campaign. All other rewards included in this level will be given to you at the end of dinner.
Level 10 Extra Information: Travel and board not included, so Toronto residents are highly recommended. Scheduling will have to be adhered to and will be arranged upon completion of the campaign. All other rewards included will be given to you once your day of filming has concluded.
Level 11 Extra Information: Travel and board not included, so Toronto residents are highly recommended. Scheduling will have to be adhered to and will be arranged upon completion of the campaign. Your scenes will be filmed in one afternoon and will spread across two different episodes. All other rewards included will be given to you once your day of filming has concluded.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Money is mainly a huge factor when it comes to Citizen Normal. We've always squeaked by with what we have, but we believe with this budget we'll be able to tackle this project with high spirits. There are always potential obstacles whether we like them or not; no one can always anticipate and plan for every contingency because 'things' happen. For example in the first season of Citizen Normal, I shouldered most of the money when others couldn't, only because I truly believed we have something special here. We want to make this a phenomena and with your help, I believe we can! With every obstacle, we'll find a way to overcome them and deliver the best webseries you've ever seen.
