A short pilot for the VEDGE' Kids pre-school TV show. Toddlers learn about nutrition through story and entertainment.
We have created a new cast of cartoon characters called the VEDGE’ Kids. What makes them truly unique is that they are part veggie and part human. There are cartoon characters that are dogs, cats, mice, coyotes and so much more, but there are no veggie people. At least not the way, we have drawn them. If you check the internet, you will see that veggie characters are a fruit or veggie with button eyes and stick arms and legs. The VEDGE’ Kids were drawn by a senior illustrator at Angry Birds. VEDGE’ Kids are colorful, dynamic entertaining and truly unique.
THE VEDGE’ Kids and the Pre-School Series
The VEDGE’ Kids are anthropomorphic, part veggie, but mostly human. They are fun, colorful, and active. A few are even goofy. Each week the VEDGE’ Kids board their carrot ship and visit a part or Earth and learn about different, healthy foods and cultures. The VEDGE’ Kids will model physical activities like dancing, yoga or soccer while engaging preschoolers in a fun and entertaining story. Their dancing in particular is high energy and will captivate audiences of all ages.
There will be taglines like “NUTRITION POWER!” This is a unique learning approach that uses multimedia to teach kids facts about nutrients and minerals. For example, the VEDGE’ Kid, Carrot Boy, will have special vision, based on the fact that carrots are loaded with carotene which is good for the eyes. Banana Boy uses potassium to generate electricity. Potassium, as you probably know, is necessary for the brain’s electrolytes and brain activity. The links and picture associations for memory are endless. This approach, along with kinesthetic (physical) activities allows children to learn and remember using multiple intelligences. Also, the VEDGE Kids teach little kids to develop and share the social skills of acceptance while embracing and learning the values and cultures from children all over the world.
There will also be a group of trouble makers called, “The Junk Food Gang.” Kids will also learn all about what goes into junk food. So we are not making any health recommendations, we are only providing the facts in an interesting and entertaining way. We empower our children to make their own choices.
Ours is an awesome opportunity to influence the lives of children for generations to come. Healthy children are smarter and happier. They are our best citizens. Most importantly, as parents and guardians, whether we are healthy or not, we want the best for our kids and desire to give them the every opportunity to succeed in life. Please join us and share our dream!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
There are 2 key hurdles. One is the production of a high quality animation in a timely manner and at a reasonable price. The most important issue is quality. In everything that we do, we strive for excellence. We want everything to be perfect from concept, through design and finally, production. You can see this in the simple and clean quality of the book that we recently published. For Kickstarter reviewers in the United States, we would ship you our book titled, "The ABCs of Nutrition: Learning the Alphabet the Healthy Way," at cost: $5.00, which includes shipping (Our book is available on Amazon for a substantially higher price.) This way you could see the quality of our work. You can also see a Galley copy at: TheABCsofNutrition.com
The second hurdle is having a media company underwrite our series. In turn, getting through the front door to make the presentation is the most difficult part of the process. We will address this issue in several ways. I would start by stating, that there's a large group of both profit and not for profit organizations that support healthy eating just for kids. These raises awareness and the need to try new, creative approaches to address childhood obesity. At the same time, the media industry is right now content hungry.
In the private sector, we are currently in latter stage negotiations with two produce companies to co-brand their products with our VEDGE' Kids. Our partnerships in the produce industry in particular, serve as a promotion/commercial that would open a lot of doors for us as we become a 'known quantity.' I would also point out that our illustrator is a senior illustrator at ANGRY BIRDS so VEDGE' Kids are contemporary, relevant and exciting.
The production of animation is no easy task. Each second of video is 26 drawings. (It used to be 24 in the day of Walt Disney, when every frame was hand drawn!) This is both time consuming and costly. However, our concept and treatment is extremely powerful even as a ‘back of a napkin’ presentation. In addition, computer animation, when applicable, reduces both the time and money necessary to produce a high quality project. It's interesting to note that the Simpsons got its first exposure as an interstitial short on the Tracey Ullman show.
In evaluating any project, please consider that we are offering an opportunity to participate in a project that will surely help a nation of kids grow up healthy and lead happier, more productive lives!
